In today's global and digitalized world, the investigation of relational trust as part of social connections has remained a popular and interdisciplinary academic topic. Autokommunikation - Selbstkommunikation - Mit sich (selbst) kommunizieren: Eigentlich möchte man diesen Titel mit einem (oder mehreren) Fragezeichen versehen: »Autokommunikation?« Gibt es das? Kann eine Person Zeichen an sich selbst richten? Selbstgespräche, Tagebücher, Selbstreflexionen, Einkaufs- oder Erinnerungszettel kommen in den Sinn. Aber sind diese Phänomene mit dem Paradigma der Kommunikationstheorie überhaupt faßbar? Kommunikation heißt doch, daß einer (Sender) dem andern (Empfänger) etwas mitteilt? Auch im Paradigma der autopoietischen Systeme, in denen es keine Übertragung von Zeichen gibt, sondern wo das jeweilige System allen Sinn selbst konstruieren muß, stellen sich Fragen: Ist Autokommunikation eine kognitive Operation, weil sie von einer Person allein vollzogen wird? Oder ist sie eine kommunikative Operation, wie ihr Name 'Autokommunikation' es sagt? Der vorliegende Band gibt aus der Perspektive des amerikanischen Pragmatismus Antworten auf die gestellten Fragen. Der Text ist in drei Teile gegliedert. Der erste behandelt die bisherige Forschung und Theoriebildung. An dessen Ende steht eine Entwicklungstheorie, welche die Autokommunikation als ein Phänomen zeigt, das sich zeitlich parallel zur ›kommunikativen Kompetenz‹ und strukturell in Abweichung zu ihr entwickelt. Die Teile 2 und 3 behandeln Autokommunikation aus der Perspektive von G.H. Mead und C.S. Peirce. Dabei wird im Anschluß an diese Denker eine pragmatistische Bewußtseinstheorie und eine operationale Semiotik entwickelt. »Auto-communication«. We talk to ourselves, we keep diaries, we write shopping lists. But can these phenomena be covered by a theory of communication? After all, communication means saying something to someone else. Or doesn't it? Even within the paradigm of autopoietic systems of consciousness and social intercourse, questions remain. Is auto-communication a cognitive operation because it takes place in one person's mind? Or is it a communicative operation, as the name suggests?
